Indonesia

It is a big responsibility for the DELGOSEA Indonesia team – after the inception workshop in Manila in March 2010 and the training of trainers in Pattaya, Thailand, last November, UCLG-ASPAC is happy to host the third transnational conference of the project.

The DELGOSEA Midterm Conference will take place from 26 - 28 September on the island of Batam followed by a one-day training workshop on monitoring and evaluation.

The focus of the conference reflects the midway point: one the one hand, the emphasis will be on looking back and sharing the experiences which were made by the pilot cities so far in their replication process. This will include a ‘market place’ session where all cities present their projects and which is open to the media, as well as a succession of round-table discussions, looking in detail at the challenges the replication process had in store for the individual towns. The various Local Government Authorities (LGAs) from the five partner countries – important stakeholders in the implementation process – will also give their perspective on the progress so far.

Finely balanced between looking back and venturing forward will be the presentation of the results of the midterm evaluation – giving suggestions for moving forward based on what has been done so far.

The second part of the conference will concentrate on the activities during the rest of the project’s duration, as well as the future – the issue of sustainability is moving into the spotlight for all stakeholders. How can the results and the experiences of the pilot cities best be documented, how can the good work continue? Ideas for keeping up the network and possible future cooperation will be discussed in working groups and plenary sessions.

Participants will come from the DELGOSEA best practice and pilot cities, including representatives of civil society, media and academia as well. The governmental sector will be represented by high-ranking officials such as HE Mr Leng Vy, Ministry of Interior from Cambodia or Ms Tam, Ministry of Home Affairs from Vietnam. Apart from the participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, the conference also welcomes representatives of the European Union Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei, Erik Habers, First Counsellor/ Header of Operations, as well as Novianty Manurung. The ASEAN Secretariat will be represented by Ms Natalia Derodofa who will join the Midterm conference.

The official press release will follow soon.
