Short Memo: 2nd National Workshop in the Philippines

On March 29, 2012 – the National Workshop on Policy Recommendations and Networking of DELGOSEA Philippines took place in the premises of the Asian Institute of Management in Manila. The participants were welcomed by Mr. Eric Galvin, Program Manager of the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and Prof. Edmund Tayao, Executive Director of the DELGOSEA partner LOGODEF.

The main objective of the workshop was to formulate and discuss the national policy recommendations towards improving the legal and political framework based on the experience of pilot Local Government Units (LGUs) and suggestions of National Government Agencies (NGAs), Local Government Associations (LGAs), Civil Society and Nongovernment Organizations (CSOs and NGOs), Development Partners and Academic Institutions. This meant in detail to:

provide the opportunity for the pilot LGUs/cities to share their experiences and challenges in the replication of the best practices;
formulate policy recommendations to enhance the legal and political framework for effective and efficient local governance;
seek the initial reactions of national government agencies and LGAs on the proposed policy recommendations; and
plan the road map for the sustainability of the replicated best projects and sharing of experience with other LGUs.
