DELGOSEA Appreciates and Awards the Work of 16 Pilot Cities



The pilot city award was given during the final conference in Bangkok, 7-8 August 2012. Out of the pool of 16 pilot cities from Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam the Local Government Associations and partners selected and nominated one city per country for the ‘award of excellence’.

Selection criteria were based on the institutional set up and sustainability, the level of people’s involvement in the project design and implementation, the extent of cooperating with supporting networks, as well as other aspects such as sharing of knowledge with neighbor cities and stakeholders. The awards of excellence were given to: Pakkred from Thailand, Misamis Oriental from the Philippines, Tarakan from Indonesia, Vinh from Vietnam and Kampot from Cambodia.

Special appreciation for their commitment and progress in replicating best practices in their home cities, were given to all the other 11 pilot cities involved in the program.

The DELGOSEA network – Partnership for Democratic Local Governance in Southeast Asia – is a transnational network for the replication of success stories in local governance between cities and municipalities within Southeast Asia.

DELGOSEA was launched in March 2010 and is co-funded by the European Commission and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) of Germany with funds originated from the German Ministry for Development Cooperation.

It follows a design that was developed by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Germany, the Local Government Development Foundation (LOGODEF) in the Philippines, the United Cities and Local Governments for Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) and the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (APKASI), the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI), the Association of Cities in Vietnam (ACVN), and the National League of Communes/ Sangkats of the Kingdom of Cambodia (NLC/S)
