DELGOSEA Participates in the 5th Asia Pacific Urban Forum

Bangkok, Thailand. Supporting one of DELGOSEA’s major partners, United Cities and Local Governments for Asia and Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC), DELGOSEA presented a selection of its best practices during the 5th Asia Pacific Urban Forum held at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand on 22 - 24 June 2011.

The conference was ‘a great opportunity to further strengthen our networks, visibility and cooperation with other projects and donors, i.e. citynet and CDIA’, said Susanne Stephan, the project manager of DELGOSEA.

During the different thematic sessions it became clear that DELGOSEA’s approach towards best practice replication and documentation is the core of the current debate on local governance. As stated by many panelists, multiplying experiences is the only way to achieve large scale gains. If there is success in one city, you can duplicate the success to other cities even in other countries. That is DELGOSEA:  learning and sharing across borders and amongst local governments!

The Asia Pacific Forum is being organized every 5 years and is one of the major forums on urban development for the region of South-East Asia. The conference was attended by more than 500 participants. During the break-out session UCLG-ASPAC also launched the State of Cities Report 2011, which ’uses the framework of 'The Urban Divide' to analyse the complex social, political, economic and cultural dynamics of urban environments’ (UN Habitat).
