Happening soon: DELGOSEA Conference on “Partnerships for Integrity and Jobs”

In cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) and the Partnerships for Integrity and Job Creation (Project i4J), DELGOSEA is organising an international conference on “Local Partnerships for Integrity and Job Creation in ASEAN: Learning from the Philippine Example” on 25 August 2015 in Manila.

The conference aims to gather local government units (LGUs) and local government associations (LGAs) across Southeast Asia to exchange experiences and best practices on efforts geared towards improving transparency, effectiveness and efficiency of local government processes to attract business and investments in their respect localities. Participants will come from the key countries in the ASEAN including Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Nine LGUs in the Philippines are participating in the EU co-funded project i4J to improve local government mechanism in such a way that their municipalities become more attractive for investors; they will present the best practices that they have developed so far and share their experiences.  A ‘marketplace of ideas’ for integrity and transparency, giving each LGU the opportunity to showcase their best practice, will illustrate these examples and provide inspiration, especially to the visitors from other ASEAN countries.

Following on from these practical examples, the wider question of how to achieve a sustainable culture of integrity on the level of local government will be discussed in a roundtable with representatives of the National Competitiveness Council, the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and the League of the Cities of the Philippines.

Finally, the relevance and transferability of the models presented at the event for other Southeast Asian countries will be discussed in an Open Forum.
