Workshop on the promotion of best practice exchange in democratic local governance in Southeast Asia

Manila 2010

In the framework of the EC co-funded project “Partnership for Democratic Local Governance in Southeast-Asia” ten Local Government Associations (LGAs) and several NGOs met for the first time in Manila, Philippines…

The first kick-off meeting with specific involvement of the Local Government Associations (LGAs) from Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and the project partners was to present the project outline to the main key stakeholders of this project, to confirm their commitment and create local ownership. During the next 2.5 years lifetime of the project the LGAs will play a crucial role in ensuring the sustainability of best practices exchanges between best practice/success places and pilot municipalities (implementing places) in the five countries. An intensive capacity building program for LGAs and the qualification of trainers coming from their organizations shall enable the LGAs to strengthen their member services and help replicating best practice examples throughout Southeast-Asia. The kick-off meeting was the official launch of the cooperation between the project applicant, the project partners and the 10 LGAs, being the key stakeholders of this project.
