Yala Municipality, Thailand

Yala At A Glance

The city of Yala in Southern Thailand chose an ambitious project to replicate: the best practice from Lang Son in Vietnam who had set up a “One Stop Shop Reception and Return Department” (OSSRRD), substantially simplifying administrative procedures while at the same time strengthening administrative and institutional structures, using information technology to implement these administrative innovations. In Yala, the task force had decided to concentrate in particular on the management of the local waterworks services. There had been public dissatisfaction with the service, and the project aims to decentralise certain functions, improve the management and update technology, thereby raising the efficiency of the service. Currently, the focus is on community information and participation, with capacity building workshops for volunteers.
